2.2 Activity 1: Identify Problems about Copyright you are likely to encounter with your remediation project

The text I have chosen to remediate is the TV show Gavin and Stacey. In almost every episode of the characters "Nessa" claims to have had a relationship with a celebrity or tells stories about someone she has slept with. I plan on telling the story of Nessa and her conquests through an online version of her "little black book".

As this is a TV show owned by the BBC and Baby Cow Productions, all content is under copyright with no creative commons licencing. Therefore I will not be able to use large chunks of film clips as this would in fact create movie length episode that I think would fall beyond any ideas about fair use (even within the context of being created for educational purposes).

I have found that Baby Cow Productions have a YouTube Channel and have released some clips which can be shared, but there is only one that I relates directly to my idea and would need to be referenced in some way.

Images and songs are also copyrighted so I cannot use them as is the script. I may however be able to chop out short excerpts from the script and use them in the little back book so long as they are referenced.

I could just summarise parts of the script and use images from the  public domain or that are under creative commons to depict the circumstances. For example the clip below shows the sequence of event leading up to Nessa and Smithy sleeping together and involves bonding over a bucket of KFC chicken - I could put in photos of KFC to commemorate the act in the black book diary, kind of like a memento. I could also add links to newspaper articles regarding the real life celebrities Nessa claims to have slept with in much the same way someone would do in a scrap book. The linking to the article rather than embedding it into the page should avoid any copyright infringements
